More than 160 pump experts attended Allweiler’s Pump Convention in Radolfzell

On October 12, Allweiler’s Radolfzell location hosted more than 160 visitors from throughout Europe, the Middle East and northern Africa, Asia, and the United States. This Pump Convention addressed issues related to the total costs of owning a pump throughout its entire operational period. Of course, a pump's purchase price is just one element of overall costs. In particular, operational costs like power, the cost of downtime, maintenance, and replacement parts, collectively known as lifecycle costs, are becoming more and more important. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) denotes the sum of all costs for purchasing and operating a pump. Companies are paying ever closer attention to total costs before purchasing a pump because subsequent operational costs are often twice as high as procurement costs!

During the convention, Prof. Dr. Dieter-Heinz Hellman from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern lectured on the current state of research and factors that determine a pump's total costs. Representatives of Siemens AG and other companies that operate a large number of pumps demonstrated daily practices for economical pump operation. Approaches to maintenance and service were also discussed. Experts from Allweiler AG explained how Allweiler pumps are designed from the very start to keep total costs as low as possible. Advanced design methods keep procurement costs low by optimizing the way materials are used. Research into flow conditions inside the pumps increases efficiency and reduces energy costs. Materials play a key role in manufacturing because they are a major factor in determining maintenance intervals. In addition to the presentations, plant tours gave the guests an insider’s view of design and production processes as well as into the Allweiler AG quality assurance system. Visitors toured CAD workstations equipped with the most advanced development tools available to see how pumps are designed from the beginning to have the lowest possible ownership costs. Technicians in the service department also demonstrated efficient disassembly, maintenance, and reassembly procedures.
